Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP)
is an inherited eye disease which
causes progressive degeneration of
vision. The number of RP patients around the world, as estimated,
reaches 1.5 million. There are thousands of RP patients in Hong
Kong.
Night Blindness is the
very first symptom to be noted for RP patients, followed by
narrowing side vision, leading to "tunnel vision".
As it deteriorates, the central vision will also degenerate. in
most cases, symptoms emerge in teenage, becoming "legally
blind" in mid-age, and may totally lose visual function in
late life.
Causes of RP are not explicitly identified for the time being, and there has not yet any medical treatment or means of stopping the progress of RP. The scene projecting into eyes of RP patients is one that is ever blurring and fading.
